In order for South Dakota agents to sell, solicit, or negotiate long term care product, the state of South Dakota requires that they be licensed as an insurance agent for health or life and have completed a one-time initial training course of at least eight hours before July 1, 2008 and then ongoing training of at least four hours every 24 months thereafter. Non-resident agents who have received their training in their resident state require further training specific to South Dakota Medicaid prior to selling South Dakota long-term care product.
