Colorado LTC Certification Training

Initial certification. Complete 16 hours of Colorado LTC training as two 8-hour courses, in either order: an 8-hour general long-term care course (classroom, live webinar or self-study) and an 8-hour Colorado LTC Partnership course taken in a classroom or a live, interactive webinar. Colorado resident producers take the Colorado courses; an 8-hour NAIC partnership course from another state does not replace them.

Renewal. Complete a 5-hour Colorado LTC refresher course every 24 months after your initial training. Colorado requires the 5 hours in a classroom setting, which includes a live, interactive webinar; self-study does not qualify.

Initial certification. Colorado deems training that satisfied another state's LTC requirement to satisfy its own, so an 8-hour NAIC partnership course from a reciprocal state may count; otherwise complete Colorado's 16 hours as an 8-hour general LTC course plus an 8-hour Colorado LTC Partnership course in a classroom or live webinar. A course from an original-four state (California, Connecticut, Indiana, New York) is not reciprocal.

Carriers set their own reciprocity rules and at least one requires non-residents to take the live 8-hour Colorado Partnership course: confirm with yours.

Renewal. Complete 5 hours of LTC refresher training every 24 months, the figure Colorado sets for resident producers, in a classroom or live, interactive webinar. Colorado deems ongoing training that satisfied another state's requirement to satisfy its own, so a 4-hour course from a reciprocal state may count.

Carriers may require the Colorado 5-hour class rather than another state's 4-hour course: confirm with yours.
